You have a rather... unique sense of humor Give me a good episode of Hancock's Half Hour instead.

Has anyone else wondered about the sort of things we find funny? The above jokes poked fun at things like famine, death, terrorism, cancer and child abuse. The humour in Hancock's Half Hour is mostly based around greed, cruelty and stupidity, as is the humour in other successful shows such as Blackadder. Then there is the humour that I have heard described as the comedy of embarrassment, which is based around a socially inept character, such as in Some Mothers Do Have Them and The Office.

When you think about it, many of the subjects for humour are pretty unpleasant. So why are we capable of finding so much humour in human suffering, cruelty and ignorance?

It's their own fault for doing well at their jobs...

Heroes In A Half Shell | August 1, 2006 at 12:59 AM

I hated those damm turtles the first time round. I was about the only kid in my school who refused to get into the turtle craze.

I suppose this means that pet turtles will become the 'in' gift for children for Christmas next year, and they will all get flushed down the toilet in February 2008 when kids decide to test out their swimming abilities or get fed up with looking after them.

Power? Real Power? Ultimate Power? | August 1, 2006 at 12:53 AM

I don't get it. The site looks as if it was put together by someone who thinks that the way ninjas are portrayed in Hollywood is accurate.

I don't think much of their warrior code either - Bushido is even more hypocritical and self-serving than Chivalry, a pretty impressive acheivement when you think about the atrocities medieval crusaders (in Spain and Eastern Europe, as well as the Middle East) committed in the name of a religion that was supposed to be about peaceful coexistance and turning the other cheek.

Best Animated Series Ever? | July 29, 2006 at 05:39 PM

I see to recall that Thundercats never left much ambiguity when it came to Good v Evil.

I voted Simpsons, partly because it isn't afraid of RL issues. And the way the Queen of England forced Homer Simpson to take Madonna with him when he returned from his holiday in Britain.

Madonna Tickets | July 29, 2006 at 05:32 PM

Hasn't that damm sniper turned up yet? Madonna's wretched tour has finally reached Cardiff. so that means local TV and radio stations are full of adverts. The worst ones are the radio adverts because they dragged her on to drum up interest in the concert.

Inviting people to rifle through her underwear drawer was pretty gross. The rubber safety undergarments incontinents like her have to wear just isn't the same as the stuff she wore last century. And she threatened to spank anybody who didn't turn up - an empty threat in view of her arthritis...

Summer Holidays | July 23, 2006 at 03:45 AM

Sitting around complaining about those damm tourists is good enough for me. Cheaper and more fun than sitting around in an airport because French air traffic control are on another strike...

World Cup | July 13, 2006 at 06:43 PM

I get hayfever, so it's either sit inside watching football or sit outside sneezing.

Commodore 64 Games. | July 12, 2006 at 07:16 PM

The Yes Prime Minister game is worth a go if you are a fan of the sitcom of the same name. Even though you can't fry any eggs as you work out how to deal with a visit of the American ambassador or the latest teachers pay deal...

World Cup | July 12, 2006 at 07:14 PM

I'm not worried about the lack of football. The pre-season friendlies and preliminary round for the Champions League and UEFA cup have already started. Not long until the new Premiership season....

COME ON YOU ROYALS!!!!!

Commodore 64 Games. | July 10, 2006 at 06:40 PM

I can't believe how many of the games were aimed at the adult market. I mean, what sad individual would have spent his hard earned money to play "Samantha Fox Strip Poker" with C64 graphics?

The Little Things | July 8, 2006 at 05:35 PM

One thing I really like is when you get a few dry, hot days and then it starts to rain. There's a wonderful earthy smell in the air because of all the dust kicked up by the raindrops.

World Cup | July 4, 2006 at 04:33 PM

When all those English flags started appearing, so did the Welsh flags. It's as if most people in Wales thought that if they fly enough flags, they can pretend to themselves that Wales got through to the finals...

World Cup | July 3, 2006 at 08:52 PM

Well, with England's world cup bid going the way it always does, it's time to start thinking about what to do with those flags.

The BBC has a few suggestions: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/magazine/5140912.stm

World Cup | June 24, 2006 at 07:36 PM

They would probably be sent to hell, where they would spend all eternity debating the offside rule with each other
