Violence In Computer Games! | January 4, 2006 at 04:36 AM

Just curious about how many games people own, and how many are violent (proper violence, not Mario jumping on koopa troopas), and which system they are for. I realise this lacks scientific rigour, relax yourselves and feel free to contribute or not.

I own 18 Xbox games, 15 of which are violent. 12 Gamecube games, 5 violent. 8 SNES games, 1 violent. 10 PC games, 7 violent.

I am greatly curious about violence in games. I don't think it spurs anyone except the truly mental on to killing sprees, but it does interest me.

We have to be the ones to push these violent games out of the market forever -- simply by refusing to play or purchase them.

Best. Joke. Ever.

Streetfighter 2 | January 3, 2006 at 03:23 AM

Ah, Streetfighter 2. I still have this on the SNES, and I still play it every week without fail. The great thing is, I have friends who complain that it's too simple and slow compared to modern beat-em-ups...but they can't beat me at it.

Elvis is not just their leader. He's their King.

Bush will challenge Saddam to fisticuffs. The result? Bush gets knocked out in the third round, and Saddam is then disqualified and stripped of his title.

Sin City 2 | December 28, 2005 at 11:31 PM

Yep, the next two have been confirmed, apparently, and they've got everyone starring again. Miller and Rodriguez are staying in control.

Piracy | December 26, 2005 at 06:39 PM

Well, because the first option you gave comes under 'Don't Care' and the second isn't piracy, as long as it's for your personal use only, I think.

Only when I eat Gummi Bears.

Hand-to-hand Combat | December 26, 2005 at 05:01 PM

FullAuto thinks it's a great idea. Well done, Pete.

See?

Hand-to-hand Combat | December 26, 2005 at 04:51 PM

Well, in a total rip off of Transformers, we're using bits of code to post the notifications of new articles. To avoid us talking about ourselves in the third person when we submit one of our own articles. Plus, it's quite cool and I really like Transformers.

Hand-to-hand Combat | December 26, 2005 at 03:21 PM

I have to admit, I didn't think that much fuck-you tax would be added on to the PSP, especially seeing as they're the same system, there's no regional differences.

That's because telly, as evil as it is, is just a weapon of mass distraction, and not really that important.

Are Video Game Ratings Worth A Damn? | December 26, 2005 at 02:29 PM

I mean, some games don't deserve their BBFCs (like Timesplitters: Future Perfect, got a 15 for some reason and only features blood mist upon bullet impact) while Sniper Elite shows bullet wounds and what does it get? A PEGI rating of 16+. Which means sod all.

Time To Split | December 26, 2005 at 02:25 PM

I've still got this, and it gleefully informs me it's only 93.6% complete. I'll knock out my stats for youse lot:

Played for: 3 days, 22 hours, 16 mins, 29 secs.
Insomnia: 22 hours, 8 mins, 8 secs.
Distance travelled: 727 miles
Average speed: 7.1mph
Total games: 845
Total kills: 31,562
Total losses: 800
Total bullets fired: 782,422
Accuracy: 47%
Heads knocked off: 6,901
Glass smashed: 3,202
Melons burst: 237
Animal cruelty: 2,700
Most kills without dying: 215
Longest killing spree: 168
Timesplitters dispatched: 351

I hardly ever touch the story mode any more unless I get the chance to play co-op with someone, but the deathmatch and challenges still hold my interest pretty tightly.

I'm surprised you blokes brought that article over, actually.

Are Video Game Ratings Worth A Damn? | December 26, 2005 at 02:16 PM

I think what a lot of people miss about GTA in general is that the people themselves are quite...cartoonish? That may not be the right word, but they're not what I would call realistic, really. I don't think it has the same impact.

I've let my little brother play on the GTA games, and he hasn't gone on a killing spree yet. I think if you're fucked up, games or other violent media could spur you on to go on a rampage, and if you're not, you won't, no matter how much Manhunt, GTA or Soldier of Fortune you play.

Bubba Nosferatu | December 24, 2005 at 10:27 PM

If you watch the credits of BHT all the way through, it does give you a subtle hint.

I thought it was a wind-up, but it's actually happening. Shame my DVD disc centre has started to fucking crack! Stupid shitty DVD cases!
